As always, this is Matt from Frunk To Trunk. In my October 25 video I cover another Tesla financing rate increase, why delivery dates keep slipping, the FSD subscription numbers from the shareholders call, a rebuilt navigation system, a cancelled vehicle and four new Robotaxi cities. Then I give my buy-now-or-wait take. Here is the written version.

Did Tesla raise interest rates on the Model Y?

Yes. In my last video I said rates had not changed. Since then Tesla raised the financing APR on the Model Y Premium and the base Model Y (rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive) to 2.49%, up from 1.99%. The Model Y Performance stays at 3.99%. Rates and incentives change often, so check the current offer on tesla.com before you order.

Why are Tesla delivery dates getting pushed into 2027?

Demand. On the recent shareholders call, Tesla said it has the largest order backlog it has seen in four years. The base Model 3 now shows delivery into April 2027, and more trims are selling out for 2026 and moving into next year. Some customers with an existing order are also reporting that their ETAs have been pushed back by months. For the earlier sold-out news, see Model Y/3 Sold Out, New Battery and Roadster Unveiled.

How many Tesla buyers subscribe to FSD?

One of the biggest reasons Teslas are selling out is self-driving. Tesla reported on the shareholders call that 75% of new car deliveries in Q3 had an FSD subscription, up from 55% in Q2. That number does not count the free FSD trial you get with a new Tesla, so buyers are subscribing on day one to keep FSD after the trial ends. Tesla said FSD is a demand driver in the markets where it is available. If you want to see how it drives, watch my FSD 14.3.8 test drive.

What is changing in Tesla navigation and maps?

Tesla's maps and navigation are being rewritten from the ground up. At the shareholders meeting, a Tesla executive described a new AI-based architecture that learns your preferences and works with voice commands, and said it is coming in a matter of months through a V15 update. Tesla's quote was that it should not be depending on other companies' maps, so it is building its own.

Which Tesla vehicle was cancelled?

The right-hand-drive Cybertruck. Customers in Australia and New Zealand received an email from Tesla saying a right-hand-drive Cybertruck will not go into production. Tesla is offering a full refund of deposits and fees, plus one month of free FSD with the purchase of a Model 3 or Model Y. Tesla did not give a reason in the email. My guess in the video is that a right-hand-drive Cybertruck may not make sense for those markets based on demand and other factors.

What else is coming: Superchargers, Semi, Optimus and Cybercab

Tesla said it built 14% more Supercharger locations last quarter, which matters most if you road trip or live somewhere you cannot charge at home. If you can charge at home, my best Tesla home charger guide covers the options. The Tesla Semi has started volume production, and production of Optimus robots has begun. For Cybercab, Tesla has promised sales to individual customers, but the first deliveries look like they will go to fleet owners and businesses buying more than one.

Which cities are getting the Tesla Robotaxi next?

Four new cities are set to receive Tesla Robotaxi service soon: Las Vegas, Nevada; Jacksonville, Florida; Phoenix, Arizona; and San Antonio, Texas.

New accessories on the Tesla shop

Tesla added a new Essentials backpack for $120, a mini backpack for $80 and a Performance umbrella for $95. The Roadster merch I covered in the last video is also still on the Tesla shop. For accessories from other brands, with discount codes, see Best Model Y Accessories 2026.

Should you buy a Model Y or Model 3 now or wait?

A lot of you are ordering right now, and with the backlog, ETAs are pushing into 2027. If you want a car sooner, look at inventory vehicles. Those are new Teslas that are already configured for color, wheels and interior, so there is no wait. In my opinion, and this is not financial advice, financing under 3% on the Model 3 and Model Y is still fairly attractive, even though rates are going the opposite way from the very low rates we saw just months ago. It comes down to supply and demand: with too many orders, Tesla raises rates to slow orders so the backlog can catch up. If 2.49% fits your budget, it is not a bad rate. Also look at pre-owned. Tesla has a certified pre-owned program, which is a good way to get a lower-priced Tesla. Still deciding between the two cars? Read Model Y vs Model 3 (2026) and Which Tesla Should You Buy in 2026?
